After analyzing and comparing the old and new data structures, a migration process is developed. Mapping is used to link old data structures to new ones. If data formats or value ranges change, conversions must be defined. Changed or new application logic requires plausibility checks, which must also be applied to the legacy data. Before a migration, the legacy data must be validated. Incorrect data in the legacy system must be cleaned up before migration. It is not uncommon to encounter special cases that must also be handled systematically during the migration. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>

Once the migration processes are defined and established, the automated migration begins. Erroneous input data is recorded in error logs, which helps with the necessary data cleansing. Once migrated, the productive legacy data is also available for evaluating the new system. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>

The actual production migration can take place on a fixed cut-off date or successively using a so-called delta process during ongoing operations. <\/span><\/p>
